PRINT-_CUSTOMS HOUSE with WHALER 1957

I was given a new box of pastel for Xmas and as a keen Art Student took them all over the North trying them out. This was one of my first drawings in 1957 ..I remember standing beside the Customs House with my older brother Peter and our dad Merchant Navy Capt. G.W. Graber -as he explained that the Customs house (an empty shell ) did take fees from passing ships and pointed out the Whaler docked there. We just thought OH great a whaler - todays youngsters, quite rightly ,would be horrified at the idea of killing Whales ! We have come a long way in my lifetime - but there is STILL a long way to go .. one day we will ALL be horrified at the idea of killing pigs,cows and lambs... I would LOVE to live to see the day...
