Sheila's Dad Capt. George Graber served in the Merchant Navy in two world Wars so this statue means a lot to her and thousands of others in the North East. She tried to echo the drama and huge concentration - as shown on the statue - that was needed to steer through rough seas and rough times ... although the wooly hat is not quite in character ! £
